TOP 11 ROCKY MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS FOR WEDDINGS & ADVENTURE SESSIONS

I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS!

There I said it!! I won’t take it back! LOL

I have grown up in Calgary and still call it home, although I would really love to move to Vancouver so I can have my other love close by; THE OCEAN; but for now this is where I am and every opportunity I get, I shoot in the mountains. I am even focusing on moving my photography in a direction that is mainly Mountain Weddings and Adventure Couple Sessions (as well as Equine and Boudoir).

So I decided to show you my favorite spots to shoot in the mountains and I am always game for learning new spots, so hit me up if there’s somewhere you love and want to show me as well as get some amazing pictures of the two of you! 😉

one | Nipika Mountain Resort, BC

Nipika Mountain Resort is located in BC, super close to Radium and about a 3hr breath-taking drive from Calgary! The resort has 8 cabins that sleep varying amounts, some up to 8 people, and you can even bring your horses. There’s tons of trails, frisbee-gold, mountain bike trails, hiking…and INSANE views of the Kootenay Mountains. If you are wanting a cool place to get married then check them out! Family owned and operated and amazing people!!

two | Mt Lorette Ponds, Kananaskis

A client introduced me to this incredible little gem of a spot just off HWY 40 between the TransCanada and Hwy 66 to the south. It’s literally right beside the highway with walking paths, bridges, and if you’re lucky you’ll see the resident beavers! 😉 It is gorgeous in every season!

three | Emerald Lake, Field BC

Emerald Lake, BC is absolutely a STUNNING location for any occasion and it features numerous cabins so all your wedding guests can stay. It would be an incredible spot for an Adventure Session too, so contact me and let’s do it!

four | Kicking Horse Mtn Resort, Golden BC

I absolutely love the drive to Golden, BC…even with the construction that is often plaguing the hwy at some point along the way! Then there’s Golden itself nestled in the valley; plus the GORGEOUS Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant atop the mountain with incredible views for your outdoor ceremony and believe me the sunset photos are gorgeous too!! Take me back to Golden, PLEASE! <3

five | Tunnel Mountain, Banff AB

Tunnel Mountain is a very popular spot in Banff to get married or go for photos period. It has the beautiful and large grassy plateau across from the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, which is a great place to stay and get married, that overlooks the mountains! Have your ceremony out on the plateau or just get awesome photos there! 😉

six | Lake Minnewanka, Banff AB

Lake Minnewanka is a very popular tourist spot and works for every kind of session you can think of! Surrounded by mountains, yet a big wide open lake, which a rocky beach, Large dock to rent boats and canoes, and forested paths! The photos speak for themselves! 😉

seven | Vermillion Lakes, Banff AB

Such a cool spot right outside the townsite of Banff along the TransCanada Hwy, at the bottom of a hill.

eight | Seebe, AB

nine | Lake Louise & Moraine Lake, AB

Lake Louise, as well as Moraine Lake, are known around the world for the iconic “Canadian Rockies Views” and are a HUGE tourist spot every year. It can be a little frustrating getting photos out there with the crowds, but it can be done and they are breathtaking! Definitely worth it!! <3

ten | Jasper, AB

Such a cool little mountain town a few hours north of Banff buried in the Rockies and a great spot to get married! You will feel like you are doing a destination wedding and you haven’t left the country. Splurge and go to the top of the mountain on the Jasper Skytram for insane views as your backdrop! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

eleven | Upper Kananaskis Lake, AB

This should be higher on the list because it is truly one of my FAVE spots to go in the Alberta Rockies! So beautiful and even in crazy weather the backdrop doesn’t disappoint!! I have hiked around the area and every year I go back! I can’t stay away and maybe someday a couple will venture further onto the 22km round-trip trail around the lake for some photos at the waterfalls I have only heard about! 😉

At the end of the day there is probably not a place in the mountains I would hate! LOL I have yet to shoot in Waterton National Parl, although I have been there on personal trips, and many other spots I have been on my own or with friends/family just not to capture a wedding or adventure session.

Hit me up for your Rocky Mtn Wedding or a Couples Session, whether you are just dating, proposing, engaged, or it’s an anniversary….I am game for anything! If you are doing a HELI ELOPEMENT OR ADVENTURE I will LOVE YOU FOREVER for taking me with you!!!

post-script…

You may have noticed that I have not included Canmore in this post; it’s not due to disliking the area. On the contrary, I love it there; however recently the town implemented a fee structure on a scale of large commercial productions, but is not truly relevant to wedding photographers, and making the fees unaffordable for a wedding photographer to shoot there. For me personally and my small business it would force me to raise prices for just Canmore and/or stick the fees to my clients which I am not sure is fair either. I am not refusing to shoot there as of yet, but I am limiting my recommendations to couples to get married their due to this unfair cash grab by the town of Canmore!
