Magical, Intimate, & Emotional Elopement for Kristen & Kent
Kristen found me on Wedding Wire where I have a listing page for my Wedding Services and quickly booked me after messaging back and forth a few times! We didn’t even meet until the Engagement Session a month before the wedding, but we hit it off instantly! Kent was nervous about having professional photos taken and I quickly set his mind at ease. I am a laid back, “go with the flow” type of artist and we chatted easily which really helps clients relax! We had a blast and I was super excited to capture their wedding in April at one of my favorite venues in Alberta!
There was a hiccup a couple weeks before however, when Kent’s father took a turn for the worst with his terminal illness! Not only was Kent very close to his father and had lost his mother years ago to cancer, but Gary was supposed to marry the two on their wedding day! They were very fortunate to be legally married by him beside his hospital bed 48hrs before he left this world to join his beloved in the afterlife or whatever you believe comes after death. Originally Kristen emailed me to tell me the awful news and that they were indefinitely postponing the wedding due to the circumstances. She called me a day later though to let me know they had decided Gary would have wanted nothing more than for them to continue with their beautiful elopement plans at Azuridge Estate Hotel in Priddis, AB.
So on Apr 17th/2021 I joined them; along with the dream Makeup and Hair Team I had recommended to Kristen, Avery Side of Smudge and Smoulder & Jory of JD Styling; to capture their incredible day. They were joined by Kristen’s son and his girlfriend as well as their new puppy, Tory, (out of their own female Frenchie). We laughed, we cried, and we ate an incredible meal afterwards by the chef on site at Azuridge paired with an amazing wine list.
There was some emotional moments as Kent & Kristen were all too aware of all the things Gary would have liked to be a part of and was only there in their hearts and in spirit. But they got one of the most beautiful spring days the Calgary area had seen this spring and it snowed the very next day!! Gary brought them a beautiful day to celebrate their marriage; Kent’s mother was there too and I took a photo of the memorial setup they had for them at the ceremony where they exchanged the vows they wanted to.
It also was a revelation that Gary was a retired Captain in the Calgary Fire Department and my father is a retired district chief in the Fire Dept; it turns out they both worked B shift and most likely knew each other, which is another crazy point as there’s 4 shifts in the yyc fire department; I still need to ask my Dad if he remembers him. 😉
Enjoy these pictures from an incredible day and BRING ME MORE ELOPEMENTS…they truly are my fave!
